Certo 73, a retired employee of E.I. du Pont de Nemours died Wednesday (July 17, 1996) his home on Ralph Court after a lengthy illness. A native of Niagara Falls, Certo was a 1940 graduate of Niagara Falls High School. He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Forces.
Certo was a welder and pipefitter for 30 years at Du Pont, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed golfing, reading, big-band music and gardening. Survivors include his wife, the former Margaret M. Curcione; a daughter, Debra LaScala of Niagara Falls; his mother, Jennie Sheusi Certo of Niagara Falls; two sisters, Anna Bridge of Oil City, and Sarah Tomasini of Sun City, a brother, Samuel of Niagara Falls; and two grandchildren. Russell J. Certo Sr. Merton F. Seefeldt WILSON Merton F. Seefeldt, a retired heavy-equipment operator, died Wednesday (July 17, 1996) in Newfane Health Facility after a lengthy illness.
He was 72. Seefeldt was born in Wilson and had been a lifelong resident. He worked for 30 years as an operating engineer of heavy equipment for Local 463, International Union of Operating Engineers, Ransomville. He was a longtime member of Wilson Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by two daughters, Gail and Linda, and three brothers, Clarence, Lyle and Edward.

Arrangements DIETRICH FUNERAL HOME INC. Monsignor Eugene H. Selbert, the oldest priest in the Buffalo Catholic Diocese, died Tuesday (July, 16, 1996) in St. Francis Home, Williamsville, where he had lived since last October. Monsignor Selbert, who turned 99 Jan.
3, was pastor emeritus of St. Gerard's Parish, 1190 E. Delavan where he had served for 23 years. He was known as a kind, sometimes comical and always quickwitted cleric who was admired by all who knew him. Because of his size he liked to say he was "61 inches" tall his brother priests affectionately called him "Shorty." But despite Monsignor Selbert's physical stature, retired Bishop Edward D.
Head once described him as a priest that "other priests admire and look up to." "He is one of the most beloved priests in the diocese," Bishop Head said in 1994, when he offered a Mass in honor of the 70th anniversary of Monsignor Selbert's ordination. That celebration was held in the chapel Elizabeth's Home, Lancaster, where Monsignor Selbert lived for several years. The Rev. James Walter, who succeeded Monsignor Selbert as pastor of St. Gerard's, said the legendary priest was "best known for his kindness, his willingness to help, his just being there to give support." Monsignor Selbert also known: for his durability, continuing to celebrate Mass publicly at his former parish when he was 94, until health problems slowed him Monsignor Eugene H.

Michael Freshwater, WUTV pioneer and ABC-TV stage manager, dies A memorial service for Michael Freshwater, a pioneer with WUTV, who later became stage News Staff Reporter Church, Westfield. Freshwater, who was with WUTV on Grand Island when it first went on the air in December 1970, served as production manager, promotion manager and assistant news director. He also was featured in several local TV commercials and community theater productions before moving to New York City to join ABC in the fall of 1979.

"I liked this country," he later said. "I decided to come back to it." In 1968 Freshwater moved to Buffalo, by way of Canada, and became an American citizen in 1976. Mikulec Electric Construction did electrical work for Villa Maria, University Plaza, the University of Buffalo, many new homes in the Snyder area between 1946 and 1957, as well as many area churches and businesses.

Haker of the Frederick P. Haker, 60, Town of Tonawanda, a retired toworker, died Tuesday (July 16, 1996) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a brief illness. Born in South Buffalo, he attended South Park High School and was employed at the River Road plant of General Motors Corp. for 35 years. He was a committeeman for Local 774, United Auto Workers.
He was a member of South Buffalo Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, and a member of Brighton Volunteer Fire Company for 20 years. Surviving are his wife, Carol Knapp Haker, and three sisters, Louise Salerno of Smithtown, Karen Anthony of Orchard Park and Bonnie Maj of Lackawanna.
